Microneedling uses a pen with very fine needles to make tiny channels in the skin. As the skin heals, it builds new collagen, which smooths texture and softens scars and fine lines.

You can add PRP (platelet-rich plasma), made from a small sample of your own blood, which is applied to the skin during treatment to support healing.

What it treats

  • Acne scars
  • Uneven texture and enlarged pores
  • Fine lines
  • Stretch marks and other scars

What to expect

How to prepare

Stop retinoids and other strong actives a few days before. Avoid tanning. If you are adding PRP, drink water and eat before your visit.

During the treatment

Numbing cream is applied first. The pen is moved over the skin in passes. With PRP, a small blood sample is taken at the start and prepared while you numb.

After the treatment

The skin will look red, like a sunburn, for 1 to 3 days. Use gentle skincare, skip makeup for about a day, and wear sunscreen.

Results

Skin often looks smoother within a few weeks. Scars usually need a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart.

Microneedling Q&A

What does microneedling do?

It makes tiny channels in the skin that trigger healing and new collagen, which improves texture, scars and fine lines.

What does PRP add?

PRP is made from your own blood and is applied during treatment to support healing. Some patients choose it for acne scars.

Does it hurt?

Numbing cream keeps it comfortable. Most people feel a light scratching or vibration.

How many treatments will I need?

Most people do a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart. Your provider will recommend a plan.

How much downtime is there?

Expect 1 to 3 days of redness. Most people go back to work the next day.

Is it safe for darker skin?

Microneedling does not use heat or light, so it can be used on many skin types.

Who should not get microneedling?

We do not treat areas with an active breakout, infection or cold sore, or patients who are pregnant.
