What it treats.

Jaw clenching (TMJ) Excessive sweating

Forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet are FDA-approved cosmetic uses for some of these products. BOTOX Cosmetic is also FDA-approved for moderate to severe platysma bands in adults. Other uses, like bunny lines and the lip flip, are off-label; approvals vary by product. Your injector will explain your options.

Some of these are medical uses and may be covered by insurance. We will let you know at your visit.

Natural results, not a frozen look.

Everyone's face moves differently, so we start by watching how yours moves. Your injector will ask what bothers you, explain what will and won't change, and start conservatively. You can always add more. Our providers always target a natural result.

  • Simple pricing. Priced by area in New York, Chicago and Palm Beach Gardens, and by the unit in Boulder.
  • Free touch-up at offices that price by area. Come back 10 to 14 days after your treatment and we will fine-tune it at no charge.
  • Medical team. Every injection is done by a licensed provider.

Before and after: Botox

After: forehead after Botox, front view
Forehead lines, Botox

Individual results vary.

Lip flip

A lip flip uses a small amount of Botox along the upper lip to relax the muscle around the mouth. The upper lip rolls slightly outward, so more of it shows when you smile, without adding volume. It can also soften a gummy smile. Results appear within about 1 to 2 weeks and usually last about 2 to 3 months. Lip flips and treatment of a gummy smile are off-label uses. Temporary difficulty drinking, speaking or keeping a lip seal can occur. For more volume, see lip filler.

Masseter and jaw Botox (for TMJ)

Botox in the masseter, the large chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw, can ease clenching and grinding for selected patients and slim a square-looking jaw over a few months. Masseter Botox is not FDA-approved for these uses.

FAQ

Good questions.

What is Botox?

Botox is a purified protein that relaxes the muscles that cause certain lines, like forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet. It is FDA-approved for cosmetic use. It also has medical uses, such as excessive sweating.

Is Botox the same as filler?

No. Botox relaxes the muscles that cause lines. Fillers add volume to areas that have lost fullness. Many patients use both.

Does it hurt?

Most people feel a brief pinch. The treatment takes minutes.

When will I see results?

Most people start to see a change in a few days, with full results after about two weeks.

How long does it last?

Usually 3 to 6 months, depending on the area and the person.

How often should I get Botox?

Most people come back when they notice movement returning, usually every 3 to 6 months.

How much Botox do I need?

It depends on your muscles and the result you want. We start conservatively, since you can always add more.

How much does Botox cost?

Most of our offices price by area, starting at $450 per area, with a free touch-up at 10 to 14 days. Boulder prices by the unit, at $15 per unit. We always confirm the price before we begin.

Which one is right for me: Botox, Xeomin, Dysport or Daxxify?

They work in a similar way with small differences in how quickly they start and how long they last. Your injector will recommend one at your visit.

Can I go back to work after?

Yes, most people do. For the rest of the day, avoid lying down, heavy exercise and rubbing the area.

What are the side effects?

Some people have mild redness, swelling or a small bruise where the injections went, and it fades quickly. Less often, people get a headache, or an eyelid or brow sits lower for a short time. These effects wear off.

Is Botox safe?

Botox is FDA-approved and has been used for decades. At Mandel, every injection is done by a licensed provider. We do not treat patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What age should I start?

Botox is approved for adults. There is no set age. The right time is when lines start to bother you, and your injector can tell you if treatment makes sense now.

I have an event coming up. When should I book?

At least 2 weeks before, so the full effect is in. If it's your first time, book 3 to 4 weeks ahead to leave time for a touch-up.

Is Botox ever covered by insurance?

For some medical uses, such as excessive sweating, it may be. Cosmetic treatment is not covered.
