Laser Genesis

Medically reviewed by Mitchell J. Mandel, M.D., F.A.A.D., Board-Certified Dermatologist. Last reviewed .

Laser Genesis is a gentle laser facial. It uses a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser to warm the deeper layer of the skin without injuring the surface, so there is no peeling and no downtime. It is safe for all skin types and tones.

What it treats

  • Diffuse redness and the flushing of rosacea
  • Enlarged pores and uneven texture
  • Fine lines
  • Mild acne scars
  • Dull, uneven tone

How it works

The laser gently heats the skin below the surface. That warmth targets the tiny blood vessels behind redness and encourages your skin to make new collagen. Skin looks smoother, calmer and more even over a series of treatments.

What to expect

During the treatment

We cleanse your skin and give you protective eyewear. The laser moves slowly over the skin. Most people feel gentle warmth, and numbing cream is not needed. A full-face treatment takes about 15 to 30 minutes.

After the treatment

Your skin may look a little pink for an hour or two. You can wear makeup and go back to your day right away. Use sunscreen daily.

Results

Improvement builds gradually. Most people do a series of 4 to 6 treatments, spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart, then come back for maintenance.

Similar options at other offices

We offer Laser Genesis at our Greenvale office. At other offices, DermaV and excel V+ are comparable options for redness and uneven tone. They also treat visible veins and brown spots.

Laser Genesis Q&A

Does Laser Genesis hurt?

Most people feel only warmth. It is one of the most comfortable laser treatments.

Is there downtime?

No. Mild pinkness usually fades within an hour or two.

Is it safe for darker skin?

Yes. The 1064 nm wavelength is safe for all skin types and tones.

How is it different from Fraxel or CO2 laser resurfacing?

Laser Genesis leaves the skin surface intact, so there is no peeling or recovery time. Fraxel and CO2 laser resurfacing treat deeper lines, scars and sun damage, with a few days of recovery.

Can it help rosacea?

It can calm the redness and flushing of rosacea. Many people also use prescription care. See rosacea.
