Dermatologist Accepting Medicare Patients in Palm Beach Gardens
Searching for a dermatologist who accepts Medicare can feel more complicated than it should. A practice may say it accepts Medicare, but that does not always tell you whether a particular provider, location, Medicare Advantage plan, or service is covered.
Mandel Dermatology is now scheduling patients at our new Palm Beach Gardens office beginning September 8, 2026. The office will accept Medicare and most major commercial insurance plans.
The Palm Beach Gardens office provides medical dermatology, full body skin exams, skin cancer screenings and treatment, hair-loss care, and cosmetic dermatology at 3345 Burns Road, Suite 101.
What Can You See a Dermatology Provider for With Medicare?
Medicare may cover medically necessary evaluation and treatment of conditions involving the skin, hair, and nails, subject to Medicare rules and any deductible or coinsurance that applies.
Patients commonly schedule medical visits for concerns such as:
- A new or changing mole or growth
- A full body skin exam or skin cancer concern
- Rashes, itching, eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea
- Acne, cysts, warts, or possible skin infections
- Hair loss, scalp symptoms, or nail changes
You can review the broader range of conditions we evaluate on our medical dermatology page. Coverage is determined by the reason for the visit, the service performed, and the terms of your Medicare coverage.
What Happens at the Appointment?
Your visit starts with the reason you came in. The provider will review the concern, ask about relevant symptoms and history, and examine the affected area.
If you scheduled a full body skin exam, you will change into a gown and the provider will examine your skin for spots that are new, changing, or otherwise concerning. If you scheduled a focused appointment, the visit will center on the rash, growth, hair-loss concern, or other problem you selected when booking.
The next step may be a prescription, an in-office treatment, monitoring, a biopsy, additional testing, or follow-up. If a procedure is recommended, the provider should explain why it is needed and whether there may be separate charges for the procedure or pathology.
Is a Full Body Skin Exam Free Under Medicare?
Not necessarily. This is one of the most common areas of confusion.
A dermatologist is a specialist, and a full body skin exam is billed as a medical dermatology evaluation. It is not billed as the same type of preventive wellness visit that a primary care provider performs.
That means your normal Medicare deductible and coinsurance may apply. If a biopsy, treatment, surgery, or pathology analysis is performed, those services may also be billed separately.
Our article explaining why dermatologists cannot bill preventive visit codes provides more detail about this distinction.
Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage Are Not the Same
Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans can have different network and authorization rules.
With Original Medicare, you may also have a Medigap or secondary plan that covers some or all of the amount Medicare leaves to the patient. Medicare Advantage plans are administered by private insurers and may have narrower networks, referrals, or plan-specific requirements.
This is why simply asking, “Do you take Medicare?” may not be enough. The office needs to verify the exact insurance card you will use.
How to Verify Your Medicare Coverage Before the Visit
Email a clear photo of the front and back of your insurance cards to billing@mandeldermatology.com. Include your Medicare card, Medicare Advantage card, and any secondary insurance card that may apply.
You can also review our insurance information page. Verification helps confirm network participation, but it is not a guarantee that Medicare or another insurer will pay for every service.
For the most precise estimate, contact the number on your insurance card and ask about specialist benefits, deductible status, coinsurance, referral requirements, and coverage for any planned procedure.
What About Botox, Fillers, Peels, and Other Cosmetic Treatments?
Cosmetic treatments are generally not covered by Medicare when they are performed solely to improve appearance.
The Palm Beach Gardens office offers cosmetic services including neuromodulators, dermal fillers, Kybella, microneedling, pigmentation treatments, chemical peels, and PRP for hair loss. These services are typically self-pay.
At a cosmetic consultation, the provider will ask what you would like to improve, evaluate the area, discuss realistic options, and explain pricing before treatment. You can explore our cosmetic services and review upfront pricing online.
A patient can use Medicare for a covered medical dermatology concern and separately choose to pay for a cosmetic service. The two parts of the visit must be documented and billed appropriately.
Who Will See Patients in Palm Beach Gardens?
Appointments will be available with Mitchell J. Mandel, M.D., F.A.A.D., and Christine Sacco, FNP-C. Dr. Mandel is a board-certified dermatologist and chief dermatologist of Mandel Dermatology. Christine Sacco is a family nurse practitioner providing medical and cosmetic dermatology care in Palm Beach Gardens.
